Omni and dbt: Clarity and speed for your data stack
I have been working with dbt (Open Source Data Build Tool) for many years and use it in numerous marketing and sales analytics projects. For me, it is one of the central tools in the modern data stack because it creates structure, repeatability, and trust in key metrics.
What particularly impresses me at the moment is the seamless integration of the BI-tool Omni and dbt, especially for marketing analytics. Together, they eliminate manual rework, ensure calculations remain consistent, and enable decisions to be made on a common data basis.

Why Omni and dbt work so well together
With nearly 20 years of experience in marketing analytics consulting, we have seen numerous technologies come and go. dbt has been with us for many years as a central tool for clean, reproducible data models. Since the beginning of this year, we have also been an Omni partner—a modern BI platform that we believe in wholeheartedly. Both tools complement each other perfectly: they combine technical precision with genuine user-friendliness, creating tangible added value for our customers.
1. Automatic synchronization
Changes in dbt models appear immediately in Omni. This eliminates the tedious task of updating definitions or searching for incorrect references in dashboards.
2. Context where it is needed
Field descriptions and documentation from dbt are automatically visible in Omni. This allows analysts and marketers to see what a KPI means and where the data comes from directly in the work process.

3. Two-way logic
Logic created in Omni can be integrated back into dbt. This turns one-off analyses into neatly documented, reusable data models. This saves a tremendous amount of time and makes an important contribution to consistent data quality.
The result: greater confidence in the data
For marketing teams, the seamless interaction between Omni and dbt means:
- Consistent attribution across all channels,
- Reliable funnel metrics,
- Uniform definitions between data/BI and marketing,
- And above all: faster decisions based on clean data.
If you want to professionalize your marketing data stack, the combination of Omni and dbt can be a real game changer. It reduces sources of error, saves time, and ensures confidence in your own metrics.
I would be happy to share my experiences with you if you are considering further developing your marketing analytics infrastructure.
The result: greater confidence in the data
Omni and dbt work together to create a unified database that connects marketing, sales, finance, and data teams. Instead of calculating data multiple times or using different definitions, there is a common, documented logic. The result: cleaner dashboards, fewer coordination loops, and significantly faster campaign analysis.
The integration is almost automatic. Changes to models or fields in dbt are immediately visible in Omni, including descriptions, documentation, and calculation logic. This means that analysts can work in a familiar environment while dbt takes care of data governance in the background. In addition, formulas developed in Omni can be transferred back to dbt.
Especially when multiple teams need to work with the same KPIs, e.g., marketing, controlling, and sales. Omni and dbt ensure that all insights are based on the same figures. This is essential for topics such as cross-channel attribution, performance reporting, and ROI analysis. Especially in data-driven organizations, the interaction between Omni and dbt is key to efficiency and clarity.
